When healing is the goal + PDF

Heal (1).jpg

It’s never easy to heal but always necessary.

I remember getting hurt and my Dad taking care of the wound… OUCH! Why was the healing process so painful, yet important?

If the wound wasn’t cleaned it would have become infected and caused other complications. Which is exactly what happens with emotional pain and unresolved heartaches. But how does one heal from emotional scars and bruises?

Trust, Love and Know thyself, this is all a part of the healing process.
— Ho'omalamalama

Well I’m no psychiatrist but I do know what emotional pain feels like. I also hold close the advice from my grandmother, “The answer is within!” Which inspired me to create the PDF below. It’s a combination of helpful prompts to draw from the well of your subconscious.

I truly believe that we have the antidote to our misfortune. The keys to unlock our healing and provide safe passage through this thing called LIFE. And with that I hope you will join me and re-align ourselves with JOY.

Is there a holistic side to money?

money.jpg

Have you noticed

That gaining, earning or consuming money is always a hot topic.

Before I dive deeper let’s figure out what holistic means.

Holistic: "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" expresses the essence of holism, a term coined by the South African general and statesman Jan Smuts in 1926.

What’s the relationship to money?

We often think of money as purely physical. Something you see and feel. However holistic refers to mind, body and soul.. the whole.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
— Thomas Edison

Money’s Roots

Originally money was a form of transaction between people agreeing on an exchange of value. Yet today it can represent corruption, greed and misappropriation. Which are completely opposite of wholeness, connection and unity.

So how can money be holistic?

Is it possible to feel whole when looking at your bank account?

The Real Problem

Money is never the problem, it’s who’s managing it. If someone feels anxious, jittery or uncomfortable when thinking about money then the remedy would be to learn its purpose and how to manage it.

If someone experiences the sinking hole of debt then the remedy would be to learn how to manage it.

If someone has an unlimited cashflow but wants to ensure a luxe lifestyle then the remedy would be to learn how to manage it. Even if they hire someone, they should always know their numbers.

l.jpg

The Holistic Side To Money

I took you down the rabbit hole above to make a point which is MANAGEMENT. When you properly manage your finances it will grant you …

  • Peace Of Mind

  • Ability To Give

  • Donate Where You Desire

  • Experience Security

  • Have Time To Enjoy Life

  • Take Care Of Your Needs

  • Invest In Your Mind

  • Know That “Every Little Thing Is Going To Be All Right!”

That list sounds holistic to me, what about you? It’s funny how a tiny subject like money can disrupt our life or add value to it. The real question is, “How are you managing your money?”

There’s Hope!

I have a list of my favorite resources and services…

  • Financial Peace University, Dave Ramsey - Great for debt cancellation, taking responsibility for poor financial decisions and money discipline. Best for employees.

  • Cardone University, 10X Grant Cardone - Great for increasing wealth and tapping into your money genius. Best for entrepreneurs.

  • Side Hustle, Chris Guillebeau - Great for boosting your creativity and money making skills.

  • Network Marketing, Russell Brunson, Great for people who like direct sales such as Mary Kay.

I’m not making a cent from suggesting these, should you purchase, but they are what I’ve used.

5 Benefits Of Reflection

reflect6.jpg

Dreary Months

Are the perfect season for “Reflection” because the weather outside is either too wet, too sloshy or too cold. The upside is you can do a lot of self reflection.

Side Note

If you happen to live in a cloudy, rainy and unpredictable climate I hope you’re talking to a nutritionalist about Vitamin D.

Tools Of The Trade…

Below I’m goin to share with you a few benefits along with things to do. It’s important that you schedule activities that keep you moving.

Even the heavens reflect upon the water.
— Ho'omālamalama

Did you know…

That gloomy weather causes one to remain stagnant which creates moody behavior and can lead to unhealthy habits. Here’s an example: It’s your day off and you look outside to see heavy clouds. So you head to your couch and throw up your feet. That’s were stagnation happens, no movement or activity. Then you get hungry and don’t feel like making anything fresh so you grab whatever’s convenient. However it doesn't digest right and now you don’t feel like doing anything. A friend text but you can’t be bothered. She wants to go walking in the mall but you’re too comfortable.

Imagine3.jpg

Why reflect?

I know it sounds weird because you’re thinking, “What does reflection have to do with being active?” Let me explain.

  • Reflection allows you to build “Thoughts.”

  • Thoughts that will serve you later in life.

  • Thoughts to keep you on track.

  • Especially when it’s gloomy or dealing with distractions.

Benefits of Reflection

reflect1.jpg

Appreciate

The first step is to find a place that’s quiet, where you can sit in peace.

Then begin to feel grateful for everything in your life, even the little things.

Activity

Write in a gratitude journal. Start with this, “I am grateful for…”

This allows you to fill your mind with POSITIVE things and drown out the negative.

reflect2.jpg

Observe

Pull back from your journal and just look around. What is your environment telling you? Then think about your day and your interactions with the world.

This is reflection at its simplest. You’re creating mental notes about what stood out.

Activity

It’s a great time to inhale into your nostrils and exhale through your mouth. Soothing your heart and allowing fresh oxygen in.

reflect3.jpg

Eliminate

As you reflectively breathe start to release negative thoughts with each exhale.

Sometimes we forget to let go and this should happen daily.

Activity

At tis point I would light a soy candle or incense. The sweet aroma will enable you to associate good thoughts to your day.

reflect4.jpg

Attract

Begin to switch your mind from internalizing thoughts to projecting desires. What do you want?

Activity

Use these prompts to steer you in the right direction.

  • What makes you happy?

  • How can you invite joy into your life?

  • What is your desire?

reflect5.jpg

Complete

You did it! Now bask in the feeling of accomplishment.

Practice these 5 steps until it becomes second nature.

This is my Friday ritual to close out my week but you can do it daily.

Activity

Get up and stretch. Reach, lean, fold and breathe. Finally, if you have time, make yourself a cuppa tea. (This is my fave part.)

Day 1 and 2

25 Days2.jpg

25 Days3.jpg

25 Days copy5.jpg

The perfect season for letting-go.

let go.jpg

AUTUMN IS…

So much more than a warm PSL or photos of every heart-shaped leaf that’s bursting with colors. It represents the perfect time for us humans to follow along.

Let’s face it, we’re to busy being busy. We bottle up feelings and storage them in a cabinet called someday.

Yet we all know that someday never happens and never comes. STOP THE MADNESS!

Our mental health is struggling to support our ambitions. Our bodies are shutting down from stress or worse… high blood pressure and anxiety overwhelms our sleep pattern.

We need Mother Nature’s intervention and embrace what occurs naturally.

What lies before us and what lies behind us are small matters compared to what lies within us.

And when you bring what is within out into the world, MIRACLES HAPPEN.
— David H. Thoreau

5 steps for your Ohana

TO THRIVE AND SUCCEED

let go2.jpg

Celebrate, welcome and acknowledge.

A leaf doesn’t just fall to the ground, it celebrates what it’s achieved by displaying a beautiful array of colors. It welcomes in the season with style and flair.

Looking back, what will you celebrate?

What will you celebrate? How will you welcome in the NEW season?

let go3.jpg

Reflect on what you’ve accomplished earlier.

Don’t rush into the next phase, project or event in your planner. A river doesn’t run straight, it meanders and eventually reaches its destination.

You worked hard and deserve a moment of reflection. Allow stillness to boost your self-awareness.

List or doodle your accomplishments.

let go4.jpg

Consider what is incomplete.

Now that you’ve celebrated and reflected on what was you need to look at what wasn’t. In other words, what were you not able to complete?

REMEMBER: Please refrain from judging yourself. Don’t dwell on what isn’t because that would be a waste of time and energy.

If you need help getting stuff done read this post, “How to stick to your plan.”

let go5.jpg

Ask “Does it serve my (our) vision?”

Once you’ve listed or circled the incomplete things in your planner, ask yourself the question above.

If that task, event or project no longer supports your progress… Let it go!

If you’ve loss sight of your vision I wrote a blogpost called, “Vision your way into wholeness.”

let go6.jpg

Use this method when

  • De-cluttering your space or mind.

  • Creating a wellness plan and getting your body in alignment.

  • Setting relationship goals. Let’s face it, we all have people that we have to let go.

  • Working on your financial strategy. Keep those spending habits in check.

Below is a checklist and a printable.

I’ve included a print friendly version. If you’re a Mermaid please check your in box. If not you can join our newsletter in the link below.

A Culture of progress

public.jpeg

Are you currently in a “Culture Of Progress?”

Take some time to consider the answer to this question and before I dive into the inspiration of this blogpost here’s a simple definition.

Culture: the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectivity. [Google Dictionary]

THE INSPIRATION

I was listening to a coaching call with Dean Graziosi, co-creator Of Knowledge Business Blueprint, and he loosely mentioned about a culture of progress. As the training continued my mind continued to ponder the meaning. At the time I was driving and couldn’t take notes but my ears tuned out everything else from that point on.

I WAS DEALING WITH

At the moment I was dealing with a communication issue I was having with one of my contracts and those three words hit me, in a good way. Culture Of Progress.

Am I in a culture of progress?

Am I working with capable people who value systems?

Is this business relationship healthy and is there progress?

At the moment my answer was a big, “NO, NO and NO” then I pulled over to write down a few thoughts.

Progress.jpg

HOW To CREATE A CULTURE OF PROGRESS

  1. Figure out your “WHY” and write it down, make it plain and visible. BLOGPOST

  2. Distinguish all the things that dilute or distract you. Decide to stop. BLOGPOST

  3. Make a list of the “Needle Movers” in your life or the tiny steps towards your big goal.

  4. Lock-in your mind to devote 80% of your time to your NM list. BLOGPOST

  5. Get into a group of likeminded individuals. Join their community and create the culture of progress.

I’m completely inspired to find, create and maintain a fellowship that supports my goals. I know this transaction will take time but it will be worth it moving forward.

Find your drishti, Focus

public.jpeg

Have you ever felt distracted, rushed or unable to focus?

Do you remember starting one thing and by the end of the day it turned into six projects? All of which are unfinished.

We chalk it up as normal creative flow but is it?

Is it normal to be distracted or is is it a sign of the times?

Our ability to “focus” is a war zone and we have to use tactical steps to get the job done.

I learned to focus through a practice called finding your Drishti. It was taught to me through one of my favorite yogi whom we lovingly call Mama Paula. Together with her daughter Maya they started SOL Health Yoga Wellness Center where they continue to inspire their community.

Your Drishti is the ability to find something to focus on & direct your energy towards. In fact I’ve compiled another 5 STEP list.

Before I get into the “Five Steps To Finding Your Drishti” I have to share with you my Yoga testimony to explain my connection with this practice that I’ve come to know and love. Yes, love.

IT STARTED WITH A CAR ACCIDENT

Back in 2011 an insane driver came head-on into my lane causing a horrific accident. The MRI’s revealed that my spine had the early signs of degenerative disease. I didn’t want any experimental surgery or kidney destroying drugs so I opted for Hot Yoga [Bikram Yoga] and regular supplements. [Learn more.]

THEN ANOTHER ACCIDENT

Yes, you read it correctly. A second accident in January 2019 sent me to the chiropractors. This time a pizza driver ran the red and plowed into us. This second scan had me nervous and the DC sat me down.

THE RESULT

My spine is vibrant and healthy!!! I asked him if he saw anything and he looked at me with an awkward stare, “No why, are you expecting something?” Honestly, I was in awe. My previous diagnosis DIDN’T EXIST IN MY BODY! I was ecstatic and grateful for the life changes that I’ve made.

FIND YOUR DRISHTI

public.jpeg
drishti.jpg

1.PICK ONE GOAL

When I stepped into the Yoga studio the instructor guided us to find our “Drishti” or a place of focus.

This was easier said than done and it took a lot of practice. I had to make a decision to focus on one object and devote my energy towards it.

drishti1.jpg

2. FIX YOUR GAZE

Your eyes are a powerful tool which is why it’s important to focus, gaze and look towards something that will ground you.

I struggled on holding my Asana yet I stuck with it. Believing that I would improve over time.

In Yoga and life we have to remember to look at what we desire. Which is why vision boards are so helpful.

drishti3.jpg

3. PRACTICE DEEP BREATHING

This is such an important part. It connects your head-space with your physical-space.

Listening to your breath invites awareness as you inhale and exhale. The sound of your breath leaving your body has a soothing effect when practiced regularly. What was once internal became external.

Breathing grounds us and it is the perfect anchor.

drishti4.jpg

4. CHAMPION THE BODY

Condition your mind to focus through activities that will boost your ability to focus, such as a good workout. Which might sound strange but your body may be experiencing tension, frustration or confusion that could be manifesting in a lack of focus.

A good workout, Zumba or yoga session can relieve unnecessary tension in the body and usher in clarity.

Walking daily is also a great example of a healthy workout routine. Each day is a WIN, so start winning and stay fit.

drishti5.jpg

5. PRACTICE OFTEN

No one can create a healthy habit in just one day, it will take time to become accustomed to focusing your mind.

The best advice I could give on maintaining focus is to form a habit and make it fun.

I know this might sound weird but when I have to complete a project I’ll have my favorite Theo dark chocolate nearby. Which is my short term reward, lol. Because my body wants the chocolate but my mind has to complete what it started. Essentially creating a grown-up version of a rewards system.

Finding your Drishti elevates the soul, trains the mind and strengthens the body.
— Ho'omālamalama

consider getting a guide

public.jpeg

If it wasn’t for my Yoga instructor I would have failed. Hearing her voice prompting us to, “Stay focused” and “Find your Drishti” made all the difference. After some time I was able to do it alone and enjoy the process.

Women who do

do.jpg

We’ve all admired someone at some point in time. Who broke free or did something remarkable. They left a mark in our minds etched as a hero, so to speak.

Many good and wonderful things that exists in this world because someone didn’t wait for permission. She did it afraid!

Seizing the moment and walking into your potential is what we’re talking about.

Seizings the moment and walking in your potential is what makes you MERMAZING!
— Ho'omalamalama

Five Keys

To Unlock Your Potential

Observing fabulous women has given me five (5) keys.

  1. They don’t wait for permission to get their life, health and wealth in order.

  2. Excuses and doubt happen but it shouldn't become a defining factor. They notice it but never let it make decisions for them.

  3. She defines “WHO” she is and will not accept anything less.

  4. Limitations are only steps.

  5. Limiting beliefs aren’t part of her practice.

2 ACTION STEPS

Step 1 - Become a “DO-ER”

This blogpost is dedicated to every woman who pushed her self-care or self-respect aside, trying to help others.

The time has come to…

Step 2 - DO YOU

Get excited, keep reading and if this helped you then share it with a few friends.

Stop trying to heal the world. Start healing yourself and the world will take notice. Start with YOU. Because if you're like me, we've seen the headlines and feel the hurt. Our first reaction is sorrow and maybe hopelessness. Sometimes we stop moving all together because we're chained by sadness. But that's when you use your WHAT to refocus and stay in motion.

3 GEMS TO LEVEL UP

  1. Create a vision board of your, “WHAT.”

    1. What brings you joy?

    2. What makes you laugh?

    3. What do you want to see more of?

    4. What positive change will you create?

    5. What do you need to make that change?

  2. Make time to be still & quiet to connect with your “WHY.”

    1. Meditation

    2. Prayer

    3. Journaling

  3. Be a “DO-ER” or take action on one thing today.

practices these 3

To create sustainability and have the ability to move mountains you need to practice these three things.

do2.jpg

HEALTH

I watched my 80+ year old grandmother wake up every morning to do her exercise routine. She would sit at the edge of her bed to stretch and breathe. Then she would read her Hawaiian Bible, all of this before eating breakfast. By the way, meals were simple and she ate from the vine as much as possible.

You don’t need permission to to get healthy but you do need to prioritize your wellness. It’s like that example I shared before, you can benefit from an apple a day for 30days but get sick if you eat 30apples in one day.

do3.jpg

WEALTH

Money is the weaker side of wealth because it literally translates to abundance of valuable material possessions or resources. [Webster’s]

Wealth = Abundance

To understand wealth you have to know what abundance translates to which is an abundance of prosperity in mind (knowledge), body (energy and health) and soul (self-love).

A truly wealthy person operates in gratitude and their community speaks highly of them. They embody abundance in every facet.

do4.jpg

HOLISTIC Lifestyle

You are a multidimensional being so operating with this understanding should come naturally. Maybe you just need a gentle reminder.

Be intentional about your mind, body and soul. Stay connected and incorporate habits that will balance all of these wonderful realms.

PS: I suggest that you revisit this blogpost often because the information I’m sharing will serve you throughout every season.

Below are examples of my vision boards.

How to RE-START

restart.jpg

It’s an important skill to be able to START and FINISH something but what’s even more important is the ability to FINISH STRONG. Have you ever started something but your momentum wavered, got distracted or loss interest? Only to realize, much later, that you should have stuck with it!

“WELCOME BACK!”

We’ve all heard that term before and sometimes you can catch a hint of, “Where have you been?”

More often then not there’s questions, wonderment & even concern, but often we hear judgement.

Take fitness classes for instance; you start off strong and somewhere in the middle a distraction pops up then you stop. You want to go to class but you’re concerned about what others will say or think about you.

Why?

Why do we assume the worst? Honestly… what’s wrong with our brain? Are we self-sabotaging?

Speaking of self sabotage…

I have two other blogpost that covers this topic.

Say this affirmation

I am open to receiving good things into my life.
Good things are meant to happen to me.
I give & receive grace.
— Daily Affirmation

When things get tough or difficult it’s always helpful to start with clearing the roadblocks in the mind and affirmations are a good way to invoke positive vibes. So say them LOUD and PROUD.

5 Power Steps [PS]

Don’t just walk into the direction of your goals, do it with power and purpose. Here are five PS to regain your momentum and they’ll touch on five realms or connection points.

IMG_8873.JPG

PS #1 Mind

Ignore Negativity

From self-talk to nay-sayers, just ignore them. In my eBook, Walk In Beauty, I share strategies to help you realign and re-fresh your thoughts.

TIP: Create a Pinterest board with positive words and quotes. Commit to reading them daily. Here’s an example.

IMG_8872.JPG

PS #2 Body

Move Your Body

Sitting still in negative thoughts is counterintuitive to reaching goals. So if you have a desire to tone-up, sitting in a pool of failed attempts will not serve you.

TIP: No matter what type of goal you have commit to doing one [1] thing daily. That’s one small step towards _______. [You name it.]

IMG_8874.JPG

PS #3 Soul

Feed Your Soul With Happiness

Don’t wait for someone to make you happy or give you purpose. Get around happy people, reflect their joy and create purpose. You feed your soul through moments of INSPIRATION.

TIP: Gather Inspiration.

IMG_8875.JPG

PS #4 Nature

Allow Nature To Inspire You

How many times has it rained, stormed and thundered? Yet a tiny seed finds a home then sprouts a leaf. Nature has to overcome human occupation and it never relents. Mother Nature is an amazing resource of strength.

TIP: Get outdoors!

IMG_8876.JPG

PS #5 Eternal

Think “Longevity”

We mistake failures for death. We fail and assume that the dream or goal is dead. Often sweeping it under the rug of unfulfilled ideas. However, life goes on. A failed attempt is just a minor set back.

TIP: Adjust your plan and swap your schedule around. Make TIME and restart your project, idea or creative endeavor.

Revisit & Revive

  1. MIND - Ignore negativity by anchoring onto words that build.

  2. BODY - Physical movement, exercise, creates circulation which promotes clarity. Clarity brings energy.

  3. SOUL - Feed & strengthen it by engaging with happiness in a form that helps you to block harmful thoughts.

  4. NATURE - Connect with a part of Nature that inspires you by making time to commune within your favorite space.

  5. ETERNAL - Think “Longevity” because failure isn’t the end it’s only one part to many options. Restarting allows you to make it better.

Fortunately each of the five areas mentioned come from the, “5 Realms Of Beauty” a teaching format which is written into Walk In Beauty. There are so many details that would not fit in a blogpost, which is why I wrote the eBook. Also, if you purchase the eBook it comes with printable[s] for every chapter. It’s sort of a workbook/manual to guide you on your journey.

ONE MORE THING

Keep looking up, things will get better. Mahalo for reading and please share this post with someone you care about. Let’s build a fit community together.

What can we learn from nature? After all we are the masters of this planet! However sickness is on the rise, mental illness is growing rapidly and many things are left untreated or misdiagnosed.

So what can we learn from nature?

Have you ever watched a caterpillar or millipede in wonderment? All those tiny legs moving in unity.  Perhaps you fell victim to the lull of a flowing stream and stared aimlessly. Either way nature is calling for you to observe and learn how to WALK IN BEAUTY.

It's a fascinating past time, observing plants, clouds and animals. Here are 5 things you can learn...

Our footprints have the ability to become a sad reminder or joyful celebration of our time here on earth.

NATURE MOMENT

Why MLMs are not holistic.

mlm7.jpg

Natural, organic and holistic are buzzwords. What I'm trying to say is if a company slaps on any of those titles people buy.

I've noticed a lot of distributors, people who enroll for an MLM & sell or enroll others, claiming that their company is HOLISTIC. Hmmm... do they know what holistic means?

First of all, I've been a part of a nutritional MLM since 2002. I didn't sell my family or friends up the river, I bought it because I liked it & some of them, my Ohana, did too.

My purpose is to share why MLM's aren't holistic. I've been to many meetings, hosted a few,  & listened to 3-way phone calls for every brand under the sun.

I've noticed a pattern, "I was destitute..., I sat where you are..., A friend told me..., I've lost __pounds... & I'm financially independent and you can be too, here's how ___ !"

However when unlicensed professionals start using their MLM brand to diagnose & prescribe their most expensive kit, you have to step back and see what's really going on. Especially when some claims that it's holistic. *Note: MLM companies are governed by rules and they do not teach distributors to prescribe products.

HOLISTIC: The treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease.
— Medical Definition [Google]

Disclaimer #1- This post is based off my 15+year experience in the MLM &  holistic realm. It is possible that horrible Holistic Practitioners [HP] exist but I haven't met that person. *You can read about my background here. If you wanted my full history, well that dates back to my Kupuna [great-grandmother] who practiced la'au lapa au, Hawaiian healing arts.

Disclaimer #2 - I've met a lot of wonderful people through MLM networking groups. I connect with them through their professional attributes such as personal trainers, acupuncturist etc. Selling products is not their main focus, it allows them to offer simple solutions.

Five reasons MLM's can not be considered holistic.

mlm1.jpg

HP's are motivated by experiences, a wrong that must be made right.

Distributors are based off a no experience necessary. The company did the research and they need only to follow the cycle-of-success. Which is, ASK EVERYONE.

Holistic practitioners don't want to eradicate the disease, they was to eradicate the lifestyle that caused the DIS-EASE.

If you purchase from a distributor, chances are that they have NO IDEA about the science or how it will interact with your system. You'll have to call customer service, someone you don't know.

Most MLM's have a script to simplify the sale.  They're taught to listen to the pain points & offer the best kit.

An HP is ALWAYS responsible for educating their clients. In fact they're life-long learners too.

mlm3.jpg

Mentorship or connecting to a group of other HP's is important. With technology new information presents itself daily.

The distributor who sold you the kit or product is accountable for their numbers, potential clients & new enrollees. Also, the company can close their doors at any time. Zero accountability.

In general HP's are socially empathetic to human suffering & want to offer an alternative. They're accountable to humanity.

Many of these practitioners live or hangout in the community they serve. They'll shop at the local farmers market, fish or hike along the same trails. In other words they're intentional.

In the world of homespun distributors it's all about network. Churches, social clubs are perfect for new recruits. Revisit #1

The holistic realm is woven into the fabric of connection. We are all connected & service is key.

mlm5.jpg

HP's often give unto their last breath. They sense the urgency and will work at all hours to create a solution. Often leading into burnout. They're following the call to heal.

Distributors are answering the call to "Fire" their boss and travel the world without a care. Earn more passive income then they thought possible.

While holistic services can be lucrative, I've witnessed many working pro bono. The call to heal holistically has its challenges.

Why am I sharing this? Two reasons.

First, I came across a post that read, "Just because you sell Advocare, It Works, Xyngular, DoTerra & the like... it doesn't make you an expert Kelly!" I don't know who Kelly is but that was hilarious. I can't remember the details but the person who made the post had a good point. The truth is that these MLM nutritional companies forbid distributors from diagnosing, acting as an authority or prescribing products, but that didn't stop Kelly.

Secondly, My sister is a stage-4 cancer survivor. She was diagnosed December 18 or 19 and was given a clean bill of health April, four months later. A woman with the same diagnosis who went through the same treatment was buried a few months later. What made the difference was their very different lifestyles. Here's where it gets complicated... my sister's experience was so miraculous that people started to use her story to sell more products. However, her regiment was more complicated then a pill. Unfortunately my sister stopped telling her story. She was concerned at how people were using her example to make money, without being accountable to the process. They would ask, "How much of XYZ did you take & how long?" YIKES! What they were asking was illegal & wrong. [You can read her story here.]

MLM Con's - They control everything & can close their business without notifying you or your downline. Cashflow, your enrolled organization and compensation plan can be altered without your permission. Also, you're required to sign a contract and make monthly purchases for a certain dollar amount or point value.

MLM Pro's - Purchasing products at a discount, learning and earning is attractive. Each company differs but compensation plans usually include paid for vacations or vehicles. It makes shopping for nutritional products so much easier. It's usually online with video examples.

BOTTOM LINE

There are great products, companies & opportunities, however do your own research. Don't buy just because your friend loss 25-pounds. Weight-loss is highly overrated, take your time & read between the lines. Is it affordable without using a credit card?

Today the MLM we were previously with was purchased by another. We didn't follow protocol then or today, like I said earlier I fired my up-line. It's not about the sale, it's about the relationship. We're still using the products without pushing sales. If it happens then it happens. If not... life goes on.

FITNESS

I spent Mother's day doing one of my favorite things, riding my bicycle along the Puget Sound.

FIT-FOODIE

I created a new recipe. Unfortunately I don't measure anything, well I kinda do. I have various bowls and mason jars. It's typically two scoops and a bowl of this or that. I like to buy fresh and feel out the ingredients. Food inspires me.

CHICKPEAS WITH MANGO & COCONUT CURRY

chickpeas coconut curry5.JPG

Part 1

  • Chickpeas - soaked the night before & boiled [main ingredient]
  • Mung Beans - after an hour of boiling the chickpeas, I gradually added each ingredient.
  • Wild Rice [this was just for color and texture]
  • Chopped onions
  • Chopped or minced garlic
  • Organic curry seasoning
  • A dash of Yakima smoked salt
  • A sprinkle of crushed black pepper
  • Organic chili powder [to taste]
  • Coconut Cream [from Asian market]
  • Mangos cut into cubes [turn off the heat before adding the mangos] - mangos or mangoes

Part 2 - The second dish is baked sweet potatoes & reds, drizzled in sesame oil and black sesame seeds.

Part 3 - The slaw is purple cabbage with a mixed glaze of coconut cream, agave & black pepper.

Part 4 - I rested the chickpeas with mango & coconut curry on a bed of alfalfa sprouts. Then topped it off with a lavender blossom for color.

Have you ever resisted something?

or you were faced with change and it felt uncomfortable.

Maybe letting go of something that’s comfortable to be confronted with an unknown risk?

Story Time

Once there was a field of caterpillars, of every shape and size. Each one excited to someday have their glorious prize.

A pair of wings like no other, with patterns to capture sunlight. But the thought of growing wings made a few feel uncomfortable and downright uptight.

"Calm down," said the senior Monarch, as he helped to ease their pain. "This change you fear is already near and you'll have nothing but joy to gain. The freedom to fly has no equal!" And with that they were gleeful.

Settling into their chrysalis, they understood change is significance.

The greatest of adventures aren’t in the destination but the journey to get there. EnJOY the journey.

Let’s Shift

Have you ever said, "I'm IN!" to realize that you might have taken on more than you can handle? [Let's all raise our hands in unity.] Don't feel bad, just keep moving. Often our first reaction to challenge is euphoric, that initial impulse of, "I CAN DO ANYTHING!" and you can. It's that same fearless attitude we had as children the difference is that we grew up.

Unfortunately our adult-self has thoughts of negativity and limitations. We have the ability to fly but going into the chrysalis of change seem overwhelming. What if we remembered that wings of freedom are in our DNA. Is that enough to motivate us into positive change?

We have less restraints as our ancestors and more time saving tools at our fingertips. Today is a good day to take action on an idea, fitness program, new recipe, you name it. What areas in your life are waiting to sprout wings?______________________________________ [comment below]

FIT FOODIE + OHANA TIME

In previous blogpost I've shown you some of my homemade recipes for quick and easy FIT-FOODIE meals. Today I want to show you the fun side, I'm talking cupcakes and macaroons. Our weekends are called OHANA-TIME [family] which translates into relaxation, outings and treats. One of our favorites is a place called Trophy Cupcakes in Seattle. On a sunny day we'll pack a lunch, grab a few cupcakes and head towards Golden Garden Park

As a Mom I don't hide sweets from my Kamali'i [little ones] but I try my best to find the best. I look for locally sourced or organic products. I swoon over treats made in the PNW with an attention to Fair Trade and Quality assurance.

trophy.JPG

This particular trip my Sister & I took our Mom to one of our fave spots. It just so happened to be our cheat-day. [Yippee for cheat-day's!!!] I'm so proud of my Mom, she's been doing ah-mazing on her WholelisticFit journey.

trophy2.JPG

You'll never guess, but this delicious ALMOND JOY cupcake is gluten free. Oh my the flavor!  I apologize that the signs are out of focus, as you can see I was concentraiting on the cupcakes.

Now this is the type of treat you get for a Walk In Beauty Party or Sip & Socialize. It's so delicious that you have to share the love. I feel that Macaroons should be expensive so that one may only buy a few. Talk about sabotage your way to success! Pick expensive treats to tame the tummy. Lol.

trophy3.JPG

I let my Kamali'i pick one each, they had the hardest time choosing. Meanwhile I couldn't stop smiling. OHANA-TIME is so important! What do you do with your Ohana?

The Three R's of Spring!

re.jpeg

SPRING is the perfect time to take a hint from Mother Nature. Follow the three "R's" to avoid burnout and shake off the shadows of a cold winter...

REJUVENATE

REFRESH

REVIVE

I'm sharing this because we become so busy, that we often forget to transition along with Nature.

Moments of regeneration are important, and if you follow these simple steps it will help you start the season off vibrantly.

Ready?

Every so often you owe it to yourself to REJUVENATE & REFRESH your perspective. A lesson from Mother Nature.
— Ho'omalamalama

As I take you through the 5 Tips remember that they're action steps. Be prepared to get up and do something after reading these. One more thing, you might notice that each step relates the Three "R's" to a physical space. The reason is that you can not obtain the value of rejuvenation, refresh or revival if your environment is cluttered. Part of holistic living is realizing that everything is connected.

re1.jpeg

Birds start chirping, tulips pop-up and Nature is excited to shake off their winter blues. No more hibernation, it's time to enjoy the warmth.

RECIEVE the joy and feeling of the earths rotation as it warms up the soil and plants voluntarily sprout new petals.

SET ASIDE one day to prepare your home or a small space to reflect this transition.

re2.jpeg

My favorite thing to do, because there are so many benefits, is get rid of clutter or organize something. You can start with a closet and pack away heavy sweaters, scarves and winter gear.

IMAGINE clutter as both spiritual and physical weight, blocking the windows of possibilities. I wrote another blogpost about declutter called Subconscious Curating. Read more about it here.

re3.jpeg

Bring some LIFE into your space, office, kitchen, bathroom, dining room table... you got the idea.

FRESH plants offer an organic way of aesthetically pleasing your eyes and environment at the same time. Greenery & lights can turn any stale space into a place of revival.

With so many options and variations, visit a Pinterest board I created called Beautiful Soul. Think about objects or accessories that are "soul beautiful.'

re4.jpeg

Once you've created a place to rejuvenate, refresh and revive, make sure you maintain it. This is so important.

AVOID BURNOUT by visiting this space often, maybe sip your favorite tea. Having this space won't prevent problems but it will offer you a safe haven.

INCLUDE art therapy, writing or reading, basically anything that inspires you can be included. The idea is to rejuvenate your MIND, BODY & SOUL.

re5.jpeg

The work is done!

How does it feel to freshen things up in this space?

Do you feel energy, new ideas or totally relaxed?

Share your progress, I created the hashtag #SubconsciousCurating for moments like this.

Keep in mind that you can practice the Three "R's" in any area of your life. Need to revive your fitness routine? Need a [re]fresh approach to meal prep and healthy eating? Need to rejuvenate a relationship? Ahh... spring is an amazing time for positive change.

  • Quinoa steamed in my rice cooker, basically 1 cup Quinoa to 2 cups water.
  • I usually prep 2 cups of Quinoa for the week.
  • Greens are a kale, brussels sprout & broccoli mix, mines come from Costco. [Time saver.]
  • Dressing was super simple, avocado oil with Yakima smoked salt & crushed black pepper.

It doesn't have to be organic.

oganic1.jpeg

The title sounds controversial but let me explain, I've got a great case to build in favor of local farmers.

Who created the organic title?

The term, "Organic Farming," was coined by Lord Northbourne in 1940, more here, and traced back even earlier, when according to Wiki they had to distinguish what was grown with...

This form of ammonia had already been used to manufacture explosives, so after the war, it was implemented into the fertilization of agriculture.

Certified organic foods are not necessarily pesticide-free, as certain pesticides are allowed. [According to a wikipedia article.]

I felt compelled to write this blogpost because I've been a participant and customer of my local farmers market for over 12-years, ever since I gave birth to my third child. It's funny how children will inspire you to review what you consume and how one lives. Anyway, back to the farmers market. Many of the local farmers practice organic farming. Their whole agenda is to provide safe and sustainable produce. But when I asked, "Why don't you use the ORGANIC label?" Their answer, "We can't afford it!"

We owe it to ourselves to create a lifestyle that will support us through life’s up’s & down’s.
— Ho'omalamalama

I couldn't wrap my mind around this and my brain was going through a mind-shift. So I did my own research and sure enough it's not even worth it for the small farms. What they have to do and subject their farms to doesn't add up, not to mention how it will drive the price up. And the average consumer would simply buy elsewhere. To be fair there are programs for small farms to register but is it worth it?

Here's where it get's tricky...

organic7.jpeg

1. PROCESS

Each country regulates the term organic and for any farm, in USA, to carry the label it MUST apply, pay fees & undergo intense inspection.

organic6.jpeg

2. COMPETITION

Let's be honest, small farms can't afford the expense of the organic label. Some have regular jobs while selling at the farmers market on weekends.

organic4.jpeg

3. SEASONAL

They practice responsible farming and can't produce on-demand. Their collection of seeds are often the most valuable possession. Seed-Time-Harvest.

Why do local farmers even bother?

I'll tell you why... they're driven by a deep responsibility to humanity. The true dreamers hoping that each seed will change a life for the better. Revolutionaries without celebrity endorsements or gratitude from the community they're trying to support.

I'ver heard people pass by beautiful produce and turn their noses up because of a blemish or color. Don't they realize that the perfect red and flawless apple was the creation of the evil witch on Snow White.

What can we do?

During off season I shop at a store that sells local produce, when possible, then during spring to fall I'm at the farmers market or local co-op farm. Have you tried a co-op farm yet? I also like the farms that you pay a monthly fee for a box of fresh goodies.

Today you can buy fresh from an app but I suggest that you support your community first. Here's my tips,

  • Get to know your farmer.
  • Connect with their story.
  • Share where you shop.
  • Tell everyone.
  • Take pics and post.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox and stop preaching but I really am concerned. Every time we exchange a local farmer for concrete and asphalt we expose ourself to a dangerous level of disconnect. If we can designate 5% to shop and buy local, imagine what we're doing for our backyard economy. You're supporting a family who enjoys growing and producing pesticide free product and I appreciate that, since I don't always have a green-thumb when it comes to growing veggies. [But I'm working on it.]

Five [5] tips to keep your eyes on the prize!

How many of us made a concrete decision to eat healthy, have positive self-talk, exercise more or quit something? [My hands are up.]  Then we come to a fork in the road and our simple decision get's challenged, we adjust our choices to include an amendment.

EX: I will eat clean in the New Year! Then something happens so we adjust.

EX: I will eat clean in the New Year on weekday's! Again, we're challenged and we make another adaptation.

EX: I will eat clean in the New Year on weekday's but only Monday and Wednesday.

Focus is a muscle that is created through the flexing of choices. Every decision has the ability to impoverish or prosper you, in mind, body & soul.
— Ho'omalamalama

Here's where the fun begins, let's dive into the, "5 tips to keep your eyes on the prize."

IMG_5938.JPG

STOP! Breathe, and observe. Chances are that you already know what is getting in the way of your success.

Is it a person, place, thing or any other noun?

Do you have control over this particular situation?

Is this situation in control over you?

IMG_5939.JPG

Now grab your trusty journal, I use my Make Mahalo planner, and write down,

"WHY"

that person, place or thing is distracting you.

Why are they or it allowed to distract you? For me it was my iPhone, all those push notifications, which I allowed to distract me. Children and spouse fall into this category sometimes.

IMG_5942.JPG

There are three categories that every distraction will fall into.

  1. Life threatening. This defines itself and I'm pretty sure that you won't need an example.

  2. Avoidance. [One of my evils.] When you do everything except what you should be doing.

  3. Out of your control. Not life threatening but it has put a hurdle in your smooth path. What other's do to you.

IMG_5944.JPG

Counter all the negativity.

Write a list of all the things that are important to you. What get's you up in the morning?

Perhaps you feel compelled or called to complete a certain task. What is it?

Maybe you want to complete a task that someone else started but didn't get to finish.

IMG_5945.JPG

For every "WHAT" you wrote on #4 write a "WHY. " Here lies the heart of your motivation. If you lack inspiration or feel shadowed by discouragement, then this step is extremely important.

I wrote a previous blogpost called, "How strong is your WHY?"

I'm doing a whole new series about FOCUS on my Instagram page. Using images that I've take to inspire the subconscious mind to persevere. If you're ready to surround your life with awesome intention and focus join here.

The art of self-care.

IMG_5742.JPG

I've been a self-care fanatic since I was young. Which was unusual for an 80's pre-teen or tween. I wrote about it before but basically I had a bad reaction to deodorants, which burned my skin, and there began my organic beauty journey, in a nut-shell.

It wasn't until I gave birth that my self-care regiment became obsolete. I was lucky to get sleep, and long showers were a thing of the past. I fell off the wagon and hit the ground hard. Eventually I started to regain my rituals. Which started with me spending on quality products.

The idea is to invest into your self-care, which your mind will internalize value. I'm not talking about shoes or purses but soaps, lotions and products that go onto your skin. Allow your skin to feel luxury.

The art of self-care is realizing that your body is the canvas, your mind wields the tools and your Soul will reap its benefits. Become SOUL BEAUTIFUL.
— Ho'omalamalama

Is it expensive?

Not if you make your own. You can purchase basic ingredients that will last longer if you mix what you need. I love a good face mask but I can't handle the preservatives that goes into the store bought mixes. So I mix my own when I need to. Click here to see what I use.

Below are a few pointers, five to be exact, that address how you can adopt you're very own self-care ritual. Recognizing your body as a fresh canvas, full of life.

5 Reasons to have a planning system

IMG_4859.JPG
The goal is to create a visual blueprint, containing the many facets of your life to bring harmony & balance
— Ho'omalamalama

Before you shop for a planner or calendar figure out what you need. Try answering this question: What do I want to accomplish in 1-day, 1-week, 1-month and 1-year?

Some planners offer weekly, daily or task management space. While other's are specially packaged like the "Mommy Planner" which has stickers that correlate to a busy moms lifestyle. I've noticed a trend in lifestyle bloggers and YouTubers who now promote their own planner. Which I think is awesome. [why] Because they're promoting what they use. I fall into that category.

I started planning in the 1990's, can you believe it! I was homeschooled by my Mom & she gave me a black leather planner to write out my subjects and plan my workload. Yes, I'm a nerd through and through. As I got older I developed my own style and eventually a system. I'm going to share with you my system.
