Making BIG life decisions from intuition.

What’s Intuition?

Intuition: [Noun] Ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. An instinctive feeling, often associated as a gut feeling. Every culture has a unique way to understand this phenomenon known as intuition but in Hawaii we call it our Na’au, gut.

What my elders taught me.

My Na Kupuna raised me to know that there’s a spiritual and physical side to everything. For example, we have a physical gut and a spiritual one. Both are important because they digest what we consume. Our gut tells us when something is sour or wrong and it can sense where we’re content.

Our spiritual gut digest

the energy or spirit around us. It can sense the intentions of others with precision. We’re all born with it. Remember when you took your first breath? Maybe not. But that was your innate knowing, your intuition in its infancy. You trusted it. Something inside you said, “Breathe” and you didn’t question or doubt yourself. Ah, life was simple.

Are you wondering, why do we make bad choices?

We forgot how to listen

I was walking around my favorite garden shop Ravenna Gardens reflecting on some major decisions I made last year. In a heartbeat I knew I needed to get a divorce and didn’t waiver or doubt my decision.

You have to practice listening.

It’s not so much that we forget how to listen but that we’re completely distracted by

  1. our devices

  2. everyones opinions (social media)

  3. everyone’s a professional (social media)

  4. everyone’s selling something (everywhere)

  5. self doubt due to the previous four reasons.

Everything boils down to one thing

TRUST

Do you trust yourself? The truth is that we’ve allowed other’s to impress their ideas and unfulfilled goals on us.

But what do you want?

You always know

You always know what you need to do at any given time but the choice might feel overwhelming. Especially when your making BIG life choices that will impact others.

The choice might feel uncomfortable but

will it be the BEST decision for your future self?

Think about the future when making decisions and lean in on your own gut feeling.

Here’s my go-to list when “making up my mind”

  • trust myself

  • breathe

  • pray

  • keep it to myself

  • be cautious of who I share my situation with, remember that anything you share in confidence can and may be used against you

Here’s my practical list

  • Write down my BIG decision

  • Then work backwards and put it into small steps

  • Do one small step every day

Visit places

It was my saving grace to visit places that inspired me. As I faced my trauma I knew that I didn’t want to remain in a space of victim-hood. I found it helpful to change up my physical space, in order to get my head in a better frame of mind. I had some major decisions and a walk in the garden boost my spirit which improved my soul and lifted my body. Not to mention that I added a few wonderful books to my collection.

Comment Below: How do you make BIG decisions?

Divorce was my deliverance.

Here’s what happened…

I didn’t touch my blog or newsletter for 17-months.

Yikes!

I found myself navigating a divorce, along with unforeseen situations.

My intention was to revisit and complete the uploads but I couldn’t bring myself to wrap it up. Now I’m the type of person who likes to finish what she started but my plate was full. I went from being a full-time freelancer into getting a job and managing single parent life.

It was a blessing in disguise.

I know that it might sound counter intuitive to say that I’m grateful for the divorce, after all I preach aloha, ‘ohana, wellness and divorce sounds completely opposite. However in my case it was long overdue and in the best interest of my children..

How it happened sucked but the fact that it’s over makes all of my previous experiences a necessary step.

Divorce taught me

  1. Follow your gut/intuition.

  2. The only opinion that matters is my own and my children’s feelings.

  3. Protect the circle, you and your children. Be alert on who’s speaking into your lives.

  4. Make a list and do it, regardless on how you feel. Don’t make decisions based on emotions. Follow the plan.

  5. Set up an award after every hard and difficult task. Mine was a taro latte with boba.

How I moved on.

Some days I drove to the water and watched the waves and on other days I went to the hot room at my local yoga studio. I didn’t cry much, I was too angry to cry so I had to learn how to forgive and release. Eventually I cried which felt good.

My spirituality didn’t waiver and I’m grateful to my grandmother who taught me how to walk in faith. Outside of my sister and brother-in-law, I had a consistent connection with my parents and my children’s Godparents. Even my church stepped up and I’ll always appreciate my pastor, Ashley Wilkerson, who told me, “I’m not one of those pastors who’ll tell you to stay in a broken marriage.” To which I said “AMEN” because the Christian faith will pressure women to stay in a toxic relationship but

gone are those days.

He can detox away from my children and me. Let me add that it’s important for you to know who is for you.

UPDATE:

I’m teaching an afterschool program and designed another program for a homeless shelter. Moving forward is important because YOU are meant for so much more.

Much ALOHA and remember to Walk Inn Beauty

How to unburden yourself from toxic energy.

Have you had enough?

What do you do when the weight of toxic energy suffocates your creativity, productivity, sanity and health?

Lessons from REV. MLK Jr.

Don’t kid yourself and think that the world isn’t after your peace-of-mind because it is.

Have you heard of the term, “Misery loves company” because it’s true.

As I reflect…

Looking back on the Civil Rights Movement you can see a pattern of hope over adversity. It might be pinned against the ugly faces of moral corruption but it’s there.

[Here’s my IG post on the subject.]

When the weight of negative vices strip away your joy it’s time to unburden yourself. Choose self preservation.
— Ho'omālamalama

When enough is enough

I cannot imagine the pressure that Rev. MLK Jr faced. On one side they had every right to be angry and fight back but what would that accomplish? He was constantly bullied to react.

  • React to racism but what did he choose?

  • React to bullies but what did he do?

  • React to threats but what did he embrace?

Truth be known,

None of us, not even Greta Thunberg, face what he faced and paid the ultimate price… his life.

It’s not my goal to bring up facts about the events around Rev. MLK Jr. but to step back and take a look at some of his noteworthy quotes to summarize the answer to my opening remark…

How to un-burden yourself from toxic energy.

I chose to separate the words UN and BURDEN because it represents a bridge. In my opinion you will have to create a bridge of hope to walk across and get away from the vices of hate. Because at the end of the day, no matter the label, it’s all hate. And what dispels hate? LOVE of course!

Let LOVE ❤️ IN

I’m not talking about romantic love…

That can make one seem desperate and attract the wrong type of advances. One that may damage the soul. NO, I’m not talking about romance but something with intrinsic value.

SELF LOVE

The ability to VALUE and find worthiness when looking at your reflection in the mirror. Love is the strongest energy known to mankind yet we don’t use it to protect ourselves or deflect toxic arrows.

  • When someone messages hate, block them.

  • If someone wants to remind you of your past, remove them.

  • Stop giving toxic people access to your mind and most of all your subconscious.

Love = Light

Have you joined a wellness community or some type of group or mastermind that emulates your desire to live in peace? Love needs action to dispel hate. Let me repeat,

Love needs action.

It’s not enough to wish, dream or play the victim when it comes to the burden of wickedness. You don’t have to stay there and there are things you can do, small steps, to improve your mindset and will your body to take action.

Question is

How badly do you want to un-burden toxic energy?

And are you ready to make a move?

Believe in love

Don’t give up on LOVE

How Culture Saves

Our Salvation

Actually comes from

Our Ancestors…

Woven into the fabric of each and every Indigenous Culture are the coping mechanisms and life giving advice. But what happened?

Why are we so stressed?

Why are we so busy but never productive?

Why are we struggling emotionally?

How did they manage stress?

I think the answer is found in their creativity. They did more with their hands and everything had a purpose.

Indigenous Culture saves because it’s a collection of coping skills from our ancestors. A variety of songs, dances, crafts and prayers to help us live a good life.
— Ho'omālamalama

Art Saves

Actually Culture Saves

There’s a book called “Art Saves” by Jenny Doh and every artist mentioned shared how art literally saved their lives. It helped them to make sense in a senseless world but I would like to push the narrative a little bit further. I believe “Culture Saves” because it’s a collection of coping skills from our ancestors. We are left with intangible gifts such as uplifting songs, stories that motivate and an artist’s interpretation of the world. These are priceless artifacts that are passed down through each generation.

What if you don’t know how to sing, tell a story or create art?

Boarding schools, yes we had them in Hawaii, made sure that these practices would cease and they almost succeeded had it not been for pockets of ‘Ohana who continued traditional teachings despite the oppression. Then there’s the TED Talk by Sir Ken Robinson that asked, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” Which was eye opening for parents everywhere with over 20-70million views on different platforms.

We need to revive our cultural teachings.

How do we revive our culture?

Giving our ‘Ohana a safe space to discover and develop is a good place to start. Speaking kind words and refraining from negative opinions and hurtful criticisms. Listening to the music of our ancestors and immersing ourselves in the legends and folk art of our people.

Although it’s nice to be part of the melting pot of the USA but we don’t have to loose our flavor in the process.

One day,

I was huckleberry picking and came across this amazing plant. It was so vivid against the ferns, berry bushes and evergreens.

I took a picture and showed it to a Nisqually Elder, Joyce McCloud, and she said that it looked like Indian Paintbrush. My mind reflected on a childhood story I read by the late Tomie dePaola, one of my favorite storytellers.

He wrote, “The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush” and here I was 30years later looking at the very plant.

That story influenced me and I was mesmerized by Native American Culture. It taught me to be grateful for who I am and that great things will come from small beginnings. I wanted to learn more about them as a race than I red their history and was heartbroken. I was 13 at the time.

The Significance of Culture

So many Indigenous Peoples face

layers of discrimination, genocide and eraser-culture due to colonization. Yet we all know the importance of Native heritage and knowledge. In fact every yogi who practices yoga are using someones else’s culture, one that was on the brink of destruction by the British. Let’s not forget the individuals performing Ho’oponopono ceremonies without regard or homage to the Hawaiian people. Then there’s the mass produced Dreamcatchers so far removed from its place of origin and made to sell in China.

Why are we taking?

We realize that these Indigenous Cultures offer us peace, healing and restoration. What we need to do is look within ourselves and see what our own ancestry will provide.

When is it okay?

When you’re invited to participate in someone else’s cultural practice, is a good place to start. For example I live in the Pacific Northwest and only participate in Canoe Journey, Pow Wow and Coastal Jams when invited. Luckily, being a cultural practitioner myself these invitations are always opened to my ‘Ohana and I.

Example

When I teach hula

I will open with the very same oli (chant) that was taught to me from my Kumu, teacher. Therefore I am perpetuating the Mana, spiritual power, of this oli. Then one day someone attended my workshop and decided to use my teachings as her own knowledge when speaking to a group. Instead of asking me if it was appropriate.

Unfortunately we are use to this type of cultural misappropriation. However our art from and culture belong to us.

Let me explain

If you painted an original art piece and I bought it I only own what I purchased. You, as the artist, owns the image. Therefore I can not reproduce it or print it on greeting cards.

In essence

She paid to attend but does not have the right or permission to re-teach. So many people what to borrow without paying the price. I paid the price, through time, sweat, money , tears, more time and tears to learn. Traditional knowledge is traded in time and servitude.

On a happy note

I am surrounded by awesome friends one of whom heard my teachings and asked if it was appropriate to share this knowledge to her peers. I appreciated her honesty and sincerity. She’s also a cultural person and knew to ask.

For the Youth

We started a summer/fall program called Cultural Arts Reimagined and partnered with Nisqually Culture, Nisqually HUD and Nisqually Emergency Management to provide an immersion program. I’ll post one of the tutorials we did for our online learners.

How to Level Up by Letting Go

We hear people talking about leveling up their life, lifestyle or life’s work but what about letting go to level-up? We often associate letting go with emotional stress or struggles but is there more to it? How can letting go influence or effect our finances, future opportunities or decision making abilities?

The sad truth is this… holding on to certain things can effect your ability to level up.

The reason hides behind one word, REGRET!

Often we hold on to something because we feel regret. Unfortunately regret can last a lifetime and embed itself into our mind, body and soul. If not addressed it will seep in and destroy all forms of love, self-appreciation and creativity. It’s a dark disease of the soul who opens the door to doubt and ungratefulness.

Regret: To feel sad or disappointed over something that has happened or been done, especially a loss or missed opportunity. [online dictionary]

I heard this analogy; The windshield on your car is big for a reason, to show you where you're going. However, the rearview window is tiny in comparison and gives you the opportunity to refer to what’s behind but only for a brief moment.

A person who lives in regret will always bring up the past, talk about unfinished projects that are no longer relevant and have trouble pivoting. I can relate because this was me for many years after my grandmother died. Then I realized she was all about her ‘Ohana, community and her bible. As long as I was loving my children (she loved children), building community and reading my bible I was making her proud. I didn’t have to move or build a monument to her name, I just had to love.

There’s hope!

Letting go is the practice of releasing to clear the clutter (it can be physical, spiritual or emotional) and make space for the things you desire. Basically to fulfill you purpose and LEVEL UP. I’m not going to cover how to let go because I wrote about it in previous post which I’ll link here on the blogpost.

I’m going to hope and assume that you’ve already let go and are ready to level up in your life, relationships and sharing your gift with the world.

How to Level Up

Make a List

List are helpful strategies to release the pressure from our brain. We often hold a lot in our thoughts but it won’t get done if you're not physically aware.

Writing stuff out makes us physically aware of what’s mentally happening.

Make Time

It’s not enough to have a level-up list of things you want to complete. If you’re not making time you will never achieve anything of value or worth.

Once you chose a place in your schedule to work on your level-up skills or plan then commit to a block of time.

It’s important that you're staunch about the time you set aside. If you don’t believe me then look in history, every person who made a significant contribution to society made time to make-it-happen.

Make Your Bed

This is the mother in me but I’m not alone in this. There were studies completed that proved the psychology of positive daily habits and how it boost ones potential. They noticed that people who got up and made their bed often achieved more in life.

A simple gesture creates the natural tendency to level up.

Make Yourself

Again this is the mom in me but take the time to make yourself pleasant and reflect the beauty within. Essentially I’m referring to our work-life during quarantine and how we got comfortable with complacency. Our whole culture shifted and it was okay to live in pajamas 24/7 because everyone else was.

Remember the goal is to level-up your life not anyone else’s.

I initially struggled getting all-dressed-up for my living room but it eventually paid off. I took my work more seriously because I was dressed for success.

Make It Happen

No one’s going to level-up for you but with consistency you’ll get there. The probability of you trying once and failing is 99.9% but if you tried 100times you will succeed at least once. And those odds aren’t terrible because it takes one moment to be wildly successful in health and wealth but you you have to be consistent.

When you show up for your dreams, goals and visions it will show-out for you.

Becoming an #MMIW ally

Understanding the movement.

What’s an ally?

Defined as an alliance to unite or form a connection or relation between. To ASSOCIATE with another as a helper : a person or group that provides assistance, support in an ongoing effort or struggle. [Online Webster]

What is MMIW?

Missing Murdered Indigenous Women. I’ve added links for you to dive deeper and learn more.

Native Hope, learn more here, a mural in Tacoma, Washington visit here, cities with the highest count view here and a Wiki version.

How to become an effective ally.

Empathy is a key factor in joining any movement or struggle. You have to literally feel the aches and pains or have personal experience. Once you understand the foundation and the WHY, you’ll be an effective ally.

Here is the path, young and old, to the daughters of the four seasons find your place among the mountains.
— Ho'omalamalama

Something to Share

I wanted to bring an awareness to my native students back in 2021 while inspiring them to be excellent. I didn’t want them to fell overwhelmed by what they couldn’t control.

Many of the families in my local Native community have experienced the loss of a loved one who's gone missing and I was aware of its effects on the children in our school.

  • How do I educate without crossing traumatic experiences?

  • How do I uplift and give hope to a difficult subject?

That’s when the word REVERENCE came to my mind. I needed to teach them the power of reverence and how it can compel us to move forward.

In a flow of conscious writing I penned a literary piece and entitled it, “In Reverence.” Then I brought it to the teaching staff in the Elementary and together we created a special event for the students.

The Mom’s from our FACE program sewed matching ribbon skirts. I designed two images to be placed on t-shirts and our principal made MMIW mask for all the adults.

During our morning Circle (gathering) all of the women gathered together and then faced the students as we red the poem. Next to me stood my Native Sister, Patricia Ortiz and the tears flowed. We wanted to reach out and let the students know that we can get through this together.

Later on in the day I was at Nisqually’s Longhouse during culture night and read the piece to them. Joyce McCloud, respected elder, gathered everyone to listen and in our circle we connected.

As an ally I am responsible to maintain the integrity of this movement and be a catalyst for positive change.

Looking back I’m grateful to have this shared experience with both Puyallup and Nisqually Tribes. Today I hope to continue educating the next generation and creating educational pieces to help them thrive.

As allies we allow our hearts to break, to feel the sorrow and then provide healing and resources.

Something to Know

Our intention and the WHY behind everything we do matters. I wanted to point out some key factors to consider.

Movements such as MMIW have deep roots and aren’t merely for likes on social channels. Respect the WHY.

Often well-meaning individuals want to add their own spin to the movement in an attempt to be inclusive. Refer to #1

Some social accounts are built off of trending topics. Make sure to find the source or at best link it to a Native account.

The simple act of wearing RED will bring awareness to the movement. You can also support Native artist who create MMIW designs. Refer to #3

Teach your daughters and sons to be watchful. The idea behind MMIW wasn't to exclude other races or genders but as a place of reference.

Something for MMIW

The first time I heard this song it was being sung at Chief LESCHI School then I listened to West Shore Canoe Family and couldn’t stop crying. Many songs, poems have been written and I am sharing one of many.

Westshore Canoe Family, Lummi WA. Song composed by Antone George. Video posted by YouTuber JTCLARK91 from Canada.

Our prayers go out to the missing & murdered indigenous women. We love and miss you. This video features the West Shore Canoe Family. Song composed by Antone George. Video produced by Children of the Setting Sun. Music arranged and recorded by Mark Nichols.

Since 2020, pandemic, I’ve partnered with SPIPA of Squaxin Island to develop and create an online holistic-fitness program for women. It is important that we take care of our mind, body and soul.

Overcome Imposter Syndrome

Of all the feelings we could feel and thoughts we could think, Imposter Syndrome is actually a dis-ease to the creative process.

Repeat

Daily affirmations to point your "future self" into the right direction.

This is a powerful practice to shape your mind and create an awareness.

Your self talk can break or build you, so what are you saying to yourself? What’s going on in your thoughts? Is it building you?

This is where affirmations can help us. It’s a powerful tool to guide and refocus us.

I wrote a blogpost that’s dedicated to FOCUS and finding your Drishti. Click Here.

Reject

Anyone's opinion of you that doesn't align with your dreams, goals and ideas.

This includes personal doubts and stink'n think'n that's on loop in your thoughts. [loop: repeat]

What’s stink’n think’n you may ask? Well it’s any thought that WILL NEVER SERVE YOU or holding on to the negative opinions of others.

Start standing up for yourself!

Checkout a blogpost I wrote called, “How to become a Ninja Empath.” Click Here Which basically talks about standing up for your PEACE OF MIND.

REWRITE

Your goals list daily!

Okay, this is a big one but if you really want to kick imposter syndrome in the bum you NEED to do this step.

Make your mind see, read & write each goal.

This particular step is meant for the courageous, bold and someone who's tired of the status-quo. Warning ⚠️ positive change may occur.

I have an extra tip which is to create a vision board of your goals. You can create a single board for mind, body, soul, relationship and income goals or combine each realm.

“Vision your way into WHOLEness” is a blogpost I wrote that covers this topic. Click Here

Repeat

Steps 1-4 on a regular basis and get into the habit of forward thinking. Because that sneaky imposter syndrome will always try to bring you down.

The feeling of “I can’t” will never rest which is why you should always be vigilant. Enjoy your success and resist the urge to self sabotage.

Here’s the best part, I’ve written a blogpost just about this very subject. Click Here to read Resist the urge to self sabotage.

I also wrote another about overcoming the fear of success. Click Here.

Empath's Self Care Guide

In our first post, How to be a Ninja Empath, we asked “What if more empaths turned into ninjas and learned how to protect themselves from mana-suckers?” (People who drain your energy.) Then we created an Unofficial Empath Quiz designed to reveal if you are, in fact, an empath. The quiz is meant to be a lighthearted experience with your inner truth and embrace your gift.

We’ve been talking so much about empathy that it’s important to follow-up with the next part of the journey which is understanding self-care as it pertains to an empath’s needs. We’ve curated five steps, based off our experiences, to share with you. Also there’s a self guided e-course that you can participate in if you want to dive deeper. It will include PDF’s and much more.

Those blessed with special gifts or talents are usually unaware. The moment they come into a place of knowing they’ll need to immediately learn how to protect their gifts. Because the world is full of jealous individuals wishing they were gifted. People blinded by envy and quietly waiting to destroy what they can not possess. Stay vigilant.

How to influence positive change.

If you woke up every morning and did a 15min burst for one month you would create positive change in your body.

Now imagine that you called five friends and asked them to join you for the next month. They’ll experience positive change and it was all because of you.

Your positive energy influenced positive change in others.

That old saying, “Be the change that you want to see” is 100% true.

We need more influential people leading others through their examples. Which is opposite from social media which is full of fakery and filters.

I want to tell you, yes you, how significant and important you really are. It’s not a coincidence, you’re reading this blogpost.

Change will happen. How it happens and how you react determines your outcome.
— Ho'omālamalama

Step 1

Reflect on every person you admire.

What is it about that creator, author, actor, musician, educator, and so forth that you appreciate? Journal your answers.

I’m an admirer of Nainoa Thompson since meeting him back in the late 90’s. His tenacity pioneered the Hōkūle’a and opened the door for young Hawaiians to live their dreams.

Step 2

Why do you admire them?

Write down all the characteristics of that person(s). I’m asking you to dive deep into their temperament and nature.

We often admire individuals but don’t take time to consider why we think so highly of them.

I’ve always admired Oprah and then I started to ask myself why? Then I realized that it was her self worth. It helped me to cultivate my own.

Step 3

Do they have characteristics you would like to emulate?

After writing down the things you admire about them choose three that really stand out. What three do you resonate with?

The qualities we appreciate in successful people always come with a price. It could be in the form of a lesson, heartbreak, and even tragedy. Yet somehow they made it through and came out on top.

Learning from someone else’s experiences provides time-saving shortcuts.

Step 4

Become a student, learn, and embody.

If you obsess over good quality, good vibes, and good role models you’re likely to become one yourself.

No one is truly self made, each of us have a unique genome that we didn’t create but are the recipients of our ancestors. We embody their past experiences. On the same note we can add to our genes through learning. The new Information you gain becomes part of you and will influence the next generation.

Step 5

Character building takes time.

Continue the process of study, learn, embody and witness the unfolding of wonderful experiences.

If you want to improve your family life, work place, or beyond, you must embody positive change before it is able manifest in your environment.

We need more agents of positive change and I hope you're ready for the challenge.

November Challenge

How to shop for inspiration.

Inspiration is more than a Pinterest quote it’s a state of mind. It’s also a feeling we get when an innate belief is ignited by an image, word(s), sight, touch, taste and sound. The interesting part is how our subconscious reacts to inspiration. Each connection is both physical and soulful.

Since we live in a world where negative news, road rage, and rude social media comments plague our air space we need to create a bubble of joy, aka inspiration, around us. Which is why I suggest that you shop for inspiration. Don’t worry you don’t have to spend a penny, unless you want to.

What makes you smile?

Who is that person, place or thing that will always put a smile on your face?

Travel down memory lane and recall a time when you were completely devastated or crushed. Then think about how you were able to smile again.

PAUSE: Write down your reflection.

What’s your ideal landscape?

Is there a place that refreshes you? What does it look link? Is it a blue ocean or green mountain?

Consider the scenery that melts your heart. A place you feel calm or relaxed. Allow your mind to recreate this space.

PAUSE: Pull out your colors to draw or cut out a magazine and collage it.

What flavors spark joy?

My community goes nuts for pumpkin spice lattes because it sparks joy. What’s yours?

“Food is memories!” - One hundred foot journey. Our tastebuds hold just as many memories as our mind. Focus on the joyful experiences.

PAUSE: Create a Pinterest board of all your memorable flavors.

What sounds motivate you?

“If music be the food of love play on.” - Shakespeare, Twelfth Night.

Nowadays we can create playlist for every occasion. Do you have one dedicated to inspiration? Having the right sound can improve our attitude and so much more.

PAUSE: Make a music playlist and title it, “Inspire Me!”

What quotes help in your toughest situation?

Repetitional words enter our subconscious and become truths.

Think about words, poems, lyrics, and speeches that inspire you. Words are powerful and the right formulation can be life changing.

PAUSE: Write or photocopy all of your fave quotes, then display it.

Here comes the fun part

Once you've answered all of the prompts what did you observe?

Do any of the images, word(s), sight, touch, taste or sounds surround you on a daily basis? If the answer is no -or- not enough then you have to change it.

Now it’s time to shop! Create a budget and stick to it. You might not have to spend a penny. Repositioning a few key pieces in your home can improve the environment.

[Side Note: I suggest you de-clutter first.]

Here comes the fun Part-2

Change up your space to reflect the seasons. I’m not talking about Christmas decorations but refreshing your space on a regular basis. Allow your mind to dream and then pull from your wonderful ideas. Each season offers you the chance to reimagine your space.

An inexpensive way to boost inspiration is to add fresh flowers or plants.

Comment additional ideas.

If you’ve read all then way to the end and find value in this post please share the ALOHA and post on your social channels. Together we can promote positive change.

How to resist the urge to self sabotage.

resist profile.jpg

Where do I begin.

I guess we should starts at the beginning and define self sabotage? According to my online dictionary it refers to behaviors or thought patterns that prevent you from doing what you want to do, and interferes with long-term or short-term goals.

Self-sabotage: behaviors or thought patterns that you allow to hold you back.

Did you notice that subtle reference?

When we allow behaviors or thought patterns to make-up-our-minds and control our actions we give in to the sabotage. It’s surprising how often this happens in a week, day, and hour. With the overwhelming presence of social distractions we are constantly inundated.

Remember when it was called multitasking?

The problem is that it’s no-longer multitasking if we cannot complete a single task. Eventually we carry it over to the next day and so on. If you identify with any of this keep reading through to the end.

Comment your reflection below.

Make yourself a priority and good things will flow from a grateful heart.

Observe

What’s going on in your life and see it there’s a pattern.

Back in 2011 I got into a painful car accident and went to my chiropractor. The X-ray revealed where the injury was but it also exposed how dehydrated I was. You see, as a young mother I was self sabotaging my own health because I had a habit of getting up, taking care of everyone and forgetting about my self. I was slowly deteriorating.

It’s important to notice what’s going on in your life and take time to get to the root or cause.

resist2.jpg

Accept

Accept and don’t make excuses for the behavior. It’s neither good or bad, it is what it is, a setback to your progress. What you should do is ask yourself, “Why is this happening?”

I wasn’t drinking water because I didn't make it a priority. Once I accepted how it happened and understood why it happened I was able to move on.

resist3.jpg

Connect

Not to sound woo-woo but when we set our minds to workout, eat healthy or make more money, our mind is set in motion to follow through. However if we make it a habit to break self-made promises you will loose self credibility. Eventually we spiral down and loose all passion.

Place your hands over your heart and apologize for not keeping your word and feel the connection.

resist4-2.jpg

Rebuild

Ready to get to work? Good

Pick one simple goal and break it down into mini task. In my case I needed to drink more water so I bought a big water flask and filled it the night before. When I woke up I drank and took the flask everywhere.

Starting small shouldn't be overlooked. In fact it’s the little things in life that make the most difference.

resist5.jpg

Successful Habits

Once you succeed in one area you’ll want to do more. It’s extremely addictive to experience the feeling of building self credibility which will turn into…

self esteem

That’s what I call full circle. Your future self will thank you for resisting the urge to self sabotage. Congrats!

The only way to achieve anything.

imua.jpg

If you want

to achieve anything in life you have to IMUA, move on and go forward.

Imua

isn’t a cardinal direction like north, south, east and west but rather the destination of your desires. As a child growing up in Hawaii I knew that IMUA was a call to action.

Today we must

consider the echos of our loved ones past and present, encouraging us to carry on.

Sometimes we lack the “how” but we feel the “why” and it is in those moments that we IMUA.
— Ho'omalamalama

Our Obligation

If you breath oxygen, albeit with a mask, you are entitled to one thing the right to move. You can move into the direction of your dreams or move away from it. There might be detours, slight changes or redesigning your original strategy but that shouldn’t stop you.

5 Tips To Help You IMUA

  1. Get into an environment of likeminded people, like a mastermind.

  2. Find a coach or be mentored by someone you respect and value their work ethics.

  3. Break down what you want into small steps and write it into your planner.

  4. Schedule time for the small steps and give each task a prospective date of completion.

  5. Ask someone to hold you accountable and keep your promise.

Walking on a path at the Billy Frank Jr. Wildlife Refuge near Nisqually reservation.

Let’s face it…

We all have one goal in the back of our mind that has yet to be realized. What’s holding us back?

Nothing.

Sure there’s a slight bend in the road or maybe a few deep potholes but the path is still in front of you. Perhaps you stopped to gaze off into the sunset, wonderful pause and then pick up where you left off. Sometimes that gaze can be in the direction of someone you loved who took a different road. Don’t stand there wondering why they’re not with you and don’t you dare switch paths. If you do your life will be filled with regret.

Just keep moving and you will attract individuals who believe in the things you do. Remember your dreams and hold on to your why.

Single best advice for the NEW YEAR

Listen to the podcast.

onipaa (1).jpg

I know your heart strings have been going through so much and it feel like you can't take another thing.

You and I have a lot in common, we're concerned about the state of our world and the future of the next generation.

The single best advice I would give is...

Keep your promises.

In other words if you said to yourself, "Tomorrow I'm going to walk a mile." Then you wake up and the weathers bad so you cancel.

[Don't break the promise/commitment you made to yourself.]

Stop letting yourself down.

Sure politicians break their promises, churches loose faith and health care professionals have been caught in lies but that's NOT YOU. Let’s face it, we’ve all been let down before but why do it to yourself?

I know, you probably didn’t consider this point of view but I’d like to encourage you to shift your thinking.

  1. What if you kept every promise you’ve ever made to yourself?

  2. What if you forgave yourself for breaking past promises?

  3. What if you earned your trust by keeping simple promises?

Let’s Build

A strong foundation starts with you and it can be challenging, The reality is that many of us have allowed other people, who don’t live in our skin, to make and break promises. But is that serving us?

To build you have to clear clutter and I suggest reading…

Subconscious Curating

If you’ve failed before consider the endless benefit of creating new happy habits, read…

What do your habits reveal.

Finally, connect to your WHY and make this go-around-the-sun spectacular, read…

How strong is your why, and will it stand the test of time?

Onipa’a

I can almost imagine the voice of Queen Lili’uokalani echoing the resounding chant to remain steadfast. As one of my favorite people in history I am encouraged by her quiet determination and deep love for her people. In facing the unknown I try to find the resilience within my own environment and made a commitment to keep the promises I make to myself. Regardless of the worlds unfolding because I can not change anyone but me. This has been my saving grace.

I want to invite you to share this post with someone and answer the prompts. And if you really want to make a difference in your own life and improve your lifestyle you should consider joining our mastermind. Just make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter and you’ll be informed about our schedule and openings.

Take some time to answer these questions for yourself because I’m sure that the answer is within. Everything you need to succeed is already a part of your DNA, trust the process and keep your promises.

What to do with unwanted change?

change.jpg

Change in gas prices, weather, etc.

Unwanted change is going to happen regardless of how you feel. In fact I can guarantee change and so can you.

But what if it’s something you don’t want and can’t prevent?

Solution

Look to the past!

Generations of people have dealt with both aggressive and progressive change but their action made the difference. The “Action” you take after reading or hearing this will determine your tomorrow. I listed five tips to help you.

Read through the five tips and then listen to the corresponding podcast for details. Then post your comments below. If you want more support make sure you’re receiving the newsletter.

change (2).jpg

Accept It

Acceptance doesn’t mean that you like it.

This step allows you to move forward by acknowledging the change in your life.

Maybe it’s loosing someone or something.

Perhaps a missed opportunity.

What’s changed in your life?

change (3).jpg

Write

You have to create a positive visual representation.

We get “stuck” in our headspace worrying, wondering and wanting the CHANGE to go away.

But that’s not going to happen, refer to Step #1.

Take a few deep breaths, this is only temporary. (That’s what the Elders say.)

Write a list of things you control.

change (4).jpg

VALUE

What do you value?

In the heat of the moment or when stressed we can loose sight of the most important things in life.

A gentle reminder is always helpful to regain a healthy perspective.

Go over the list you wrote and place a number value next to each item.

change (5).jpg

BE

Be the change!

You are more powerful than you know and capable to overcome any circumstance.

Just like a healthy river you have to keep moving both physically and mentally. Your blood has to circulate and your brain needs positive reinforcement.

Use the list you created to make a TO DO LIST. Do what you have the power to control.

change (6).jpg

Create

Create sacred space.

It could be a special chair, a place in your garden or soaking in your bathtub. Make time to enjoy the simple pleasure in life.

Be consistent, plan and maintain this part of your schedule.

If you get too busy don’t skip it, just reschedule it. Nourishing moments make life livable.

What do you enjoy?

Beautiful Mind Challenge Day 30

  • Pledge

  • Devote

  • Apply

  • Do

Commit to use the list of 100 positive words you created from yesterday’s prompt.

You made it!

I’m so proud of you, this was a big commitment and undertaking. I know what it feels like to start something and then wonder, “WHAT WAS I THINKING?” Good news, everything about this challenge was designed to uplift you.

Now double the blessing

And share this experience with a handful of people then guide a group to do the BMC 30 Days with you. Basically you’re facilitating the challenge.

How it works…

Invite some friends to join you with the end in mind. Create a group text where friends can text, “DONE” and perhaps a weekly meetup to dive deep into group reflections. Sharing the experience is like putting a magnifying glass on LOVE.

The best part is to host a party, sip & socialize or scenic nature walk as a reward. Celebrate what you completed and make a big deal out of it. And if you really want to maximize the benefits of a beautiful mind schedule this challenge annually.
