The Inspiration

The story originated “on the spot” with her children and then she tried it out in a room full of preschoolers. Ho’o (ho-Oh) wanted to teach them about leadership, according to native traditions, while entertaining their imagination. So she started to draw on the dry erase board, as the story unfolded to a room full of energetic littles.

She was shocked

They were captivated and so she decided to try her luck again and again. Each class from Pre-k to 5th grade heard her story and it held their attention. Eventually she wrote it down and did what most people would have done, put it aside.

What compelled Her

Then the pandemic hit and she found herself in lockdown, along with the rest of the world. The additional time at home plus a bunch of snow days created the perfect opportunity to develop the story and find an illustrator.

Who will Draw my Story?

In the early stages she had her daughter in mind but didn’t want to pressure the young artist so she asked around. However nothing came through and she was back at square one. Which was to put it aside, yet again.

Encouragement Came

Then she brought up her dilemma to her mastermind group and they all gave 101% to helping her navigate but she still needed an illustrator. Would her daughter be able to handle the workload? Most of her art was dedicated to opening up an online sticker shop and stationery store.

She finally asked her daughter and the rest is history.
